Umrah for the Blind

Braille

The UK-based organisation, Islamic Texts for the Blind (Kitaba) and their Scandinavian partners Dirasa have organised a few Umrah trips for the blind and partially-sighted. The trips are organized as study trips with Islamic classes also being taught in Madinah and Makkah.

Student Relief Fund

The Student Relief Fund was established in 2006 by a few Muslims in South Africa. Its vision is empowerment through education. The Fund has, since its inception, provided bursaries for needy students at universities, colleges, and at Darul Ulooms doing the Aalim/Aalima courses.

Media Review Network

Demonisation of Islam has intensified in mass media, like cinema, broadcast, internet and literature. Media Review Network grew to meet the challenges posed by a sophisticated mass communication system in South Africa.

Muslim Mediation

Mediation

The Muslim Mediation and Arbitration Council (MMAC) is now established for two years. The MMAC provides an avenue for Muslims to have their disputes resolved without having to go to court. There are about 26 specially trained Ulama and lawyers as panellists. Settlements reached through the proper processes are also recognised by the court.

Darul Yatama wal Masakeen

Darul Yatama

Darul Yatama Wal Masakeen was set up in 1934. It runs an orphanage on a cottage system for 55 children including abandoned babies at Baitul Aman in La Mercy, KwaZulu Natal; and homes for aged ladies (22) at Baitul Hifazat and aged men (20) at Baitul Firdous, both in Durban. It is a registered NPO.
