The Angora goat originated from Tibet making its way to Turkey in the 16th century. Until 1849, the Turkish province of Ankara was the sole producer of Angora goats and Muslim Turkey controlled the industry.

Famous Diamonds

Noor al Ain Diamond

Some of the biggest, most expensive and famous diamonds have a history linked to Muslims:

Darya-ye Noor Diamond: One of the Crown Jewels from Iran. It is pale pink, exceptionally rare in diamonds. It was part of a larger stone in the throne of Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan.

Hand Cannons

Hand Cannon

A hand cannon is an early form of firearm. It is possibly the oldest type of portable firearm. It is a forerunner of the handgun as well as muskets and later rifles. While the exact origins are unknown, it is known that hand cannons were used in the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260 by Muslim forces against the Mongols.

Arab Muslims had a major impact on Spanish. Of all the languages in the world outside the Muslim lands, it is Spanish which includes the greatest number of Arabic borrowing. There are 8,000 words and some 2,300 place-names of Arab origin. After Latin, Arabic made the greatest contribution to the Spanish tongue.

In 1909 the Islamic State (Ottoman Turkey) became one of the first nations to start a military aviation program. Military attaches from the Islamic State in European capitals studied the development of military air craft and in 1909 the Ottomans sent a delegation to the International Aviation Conference in Paris.
