The miracle performed by Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam of splitting the moon is recorded in the books of Hadith: Bukhari Vol. 4:830-832; 5:208-211; etc:

The people of Makkah asked Allah's Apostle sallallahu alaihi wa sallam to show them a miracle. So he showed them the moon split in two halves between which they saw the Hira'h mountain.

It is reported that Ibn Khatir mentions that the miracle was seen in India (Albedaya wa Alnehaya p 3 Vol 2 pg 116.)

The incident of King Chakrawati Farmas is documented in a manuscript in the India Office Library, London:
"Chakrawati Farmas, a king in India, observed the splitting of the moon and learning that this was a sign of a Prophet, set out to meet him. He embraced Islam at the hand of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and when returning home died at Zafar, Yemen, where his tomb was visited for many centuries."

There are several other reports of a king of India witnessing this miracle and accepting Islam, among them Rajah Bhoj and Rajah Saamri. (An Introduction to the History of Gujarat)

The moon splitting into two was a miracle. The king of India seeing it is a remarkable incident of history.
