We continue our series of articles on ways to increase wealth and ride out the financial crisis from the Qur’aan and Hadith.

Surah Ikhlaas. ‘Whoever recites Surah Ikhlaas (chapter 112 of the Qur’aan) when entering the house, it will distance poverty from the inhabitants of the house and the neighbours.’ (Tabraani)

Durood. A Sahaabi asked the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, ‘How will it be if I only recited salawaat (Durood, asking Allah to bestow mercy on the Prophet sallallahua alaihi wa sallam) instead of all other devotions and dua?’ The Prophet sallallahua alaihi wa sallam replied, ‘If you do so, Allah will take responsibility for all your needs of this world…’ (Musnad Ahmad)

Washing Hands. ‘Whoever desires his sustenance to be increased by Allah, should regularly wash his hands before and after partaking meals.’ (Ibn Majah)

Salaah. Thabit radhiallahu anhu narrates that whenever the family of the Prophet sallallahua alaihi wa sallam faced the difficulties of poverty, he would call out to them, ‘Perform Salaah, perform Salaah.’ (Kitaab Az-Zuhd)

Repentance. ‘Whoever adopts Istighfaar (seeking repentance from Allah) Allah will grant him salvation from every type of problem and calamity.’ (Abu Dawood)

Serving Allah. Allah says, ‘O son of Aadam, spend your time in My service and I shall enrich you with independence and freedom, and I shall remove poverty from you…’ (Hadith, Virtues of Ramadaan, pg 52)
