The Man and the Judge PDF Print E-mail

Brick
Brick
A man came to Iyas Ibn Mu’awiyah, a judge famous for his wisdom. The following conversation took place:

Man: What is the Islamic ruling on wine?

Judge: It is Haraam (forbidden)

Man: How about water?

Judge: It is Halaal (permissible).

Man: How about grapes?

Judge: It is Halaal.

Man: Why are these ingredients Halaal yet when you combine them (in wine) they are Haraam?

Judge: Would a handful of dirt hurt you?

Man: No.

Judge: If I hit you with a handful of straw?

Man: It would not hurt me.

Judge: How about a handful of water?

Man: It would not hurt.

Judge: If I mix them, dry them to make a brick and hit you with it?

Man: It would hurt and might even kill me!

Judge: The same reasoning applies to your question!!
