You’ve completed Matric and need to decide on what you’re going to study to land you your dream career. Here are some pointers to bear in mind: |
Intention. Actions are judged according to intention.
Among the intentions one can make is to be able to earn a living and not to beg. Halaal. The career should be in a field that is permissible in Islam. Doing something Haraam with the hope of success never works for a Muslim.
Benefit. The Hadith tells us that the best people are those who are of most benefit to mankind. Study subjects that can help in solving society’s problems.
Wealth. It is natural to wish for wealth. But this should be tempered by adjusting one’s priorities: For a Muslim, pleasing Allah comes first. This attitude will lead to a Muslim enjoying his wealth even more as the Quraan promises a good life for those who set Islam as their main objective.
Effort. Never think that achievements are due to ones efforts. This is the way of the arrogant people of the past who were destroyed. Be thankful to Allah and humble in ones achievements.
Shariah Compliant. Always check the rulings related to ones field of study or work with Ulama to ensure it is within the parameters of Islam. Umar t would only allow a person to trade in the marketplace once he knew the Islamic laws of commerce.
